POST HISTORY

In 1929 a group of World War 1 veterans applied to the Department of Arizona for a charter to begin an American Legion post.  The Department granted a charter to these Legionnaires as the Harqua Hale Post 52, located in Salome, Arizona.  That post was later moved to Arlington, Arizona (which I cannot find on any maps, so I don’t have a location of it).  In the early 1940’s (probably but not confirmed, due to the war) Harqua Hale’s charter was cancelled.  In 1946, an application was again submitted to Department for a charter as Post 52.  The Department granted a charter for Navajo Post 52, which was located in Window Rock, Arizona.  This charter was later cancelled, for reasons I have yet to uncover.  On 29 February 1952 an application was submitted to the Department, and was granted a charter for Cochise Post 52, which was located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.  That charter was later cancelled in early 1956, no reason given, but assumed it was because of Margaret Carmichael’s donation of the land to the Post.  In February 1956, a charter was granted to the Bill Carmichael Post 52.The land Mrs. Carmichael donated for the original Post 52, was located at the corner of Highway 90 and Taylor Drive.  Bill Carmichael Post 52 of the American Legion was incorporated on 21 June 1956 with the following officers at the time of incorporation:

Commander: John F. Davis

1st Vice CDR James C. Thomas

2nd Vice CDR Donald D. Davis

Adjutant Alvin C. Calloway
